Our Mission
Helping people breathe again when life feels suffocating
A coffee shop is one of the few places in hospitality where it feels completely natural to sit alone. It’s also one of the rare spaces people visit daily — a setting that fosters some of the most authentic human connections in the industry.
For our founder, the coffee shop was a place to sit alone and escape the heaviness she felt at home — a space where she could finally breathe. Hawa, meaning “air” in her native Indonesian, was created to offer others that same sense of relief and belonging. Through our café experiences and residencies, we aim to remind everyone — from guests to team members — that they matter.
Hawa was born from deep personal experience and a realization that many people carry similar feelings of isolation and exhaustion. Recognizing how common this quiet struggle is, our founder set out to create a small but meaningful place of respite — a moment of air in a world that can often feel heavy.
Looking ahead, our mission extends beyond a cozy café. We’re committed to training every team member to recognize patterns of crisis, respond with empathy, and connect guests with vetted community partners, nonprofits, and mutual aid organizations.
